The US Embassy has issued a alert for citizens in Bangladesh in the wake of anti-Israel protests and processions across the country, including the capital Dhaka. The advice was given in a post on the US Embassy’s website, Facebook page and X (formerly Twitter) handle in Dhaka on Monday.
Various organizations held various programs across the country on Monday (April 7) to protest the Israeli attack on Gaza in Palestine and to express solidarity with the Palestinians. Several programs were held in front of the US Embassy in Baridhara and in the surrounding areas. However, the police were quite alert since the morning. In addition, members of the army took positions in front of the embassy and created a human wall. Security was tightened in the Gulashan area surrounding the US Embassy and surrounding the protests. Along with the army and police, members of the BGB, APBN, SB, CID, police and intelligence forces were also active to ensure security.
The post also said that US citizens should exercise caution. It should be remembered that protests that are intended to be peaceful can turn into clashes. Can turn into violence.
In the emerging situation, the services of the US Embassy were limited after noon. In addition, citizens are advised to review their own security plans, avoid any demonstrations and large gatherings. Other advice given to citizens includes avoiding affected areas, crowds and any events; staying updated on the situation through local media; and carrying a mobile phone with sufficient charge for emergency communications.
